Juan with an oversized Mosquito Lagoon redfish
Spring fishing at its finest! June is one of my favorite months of the entire year; with summer quickly approaching, the bull redfish have been chewing good! With the water temp only getting warmer, the tarpon bite should pick up drastically! June can be fantastic early morning fishing with top water lures and soft plastics jigs throughout the entire Space Coast. Areas such as spoil islands, residential docks, and the mouths of canal systems are generally great areas to target for a plethora of species anywhere. Shallow water flats that have drop offs close by are going to be your best bet. Fishing the finger mullet pods with small top waters and soft plastics such as gulp are definitely the way to go; as the sun rises and the bait pods seem to diminish, slowing your presentation down is crucial. Chunks of mullet, ladyfish and pinfish are a great recipe for success! Fish these baits along drop offs or large sandbars. The tarpon bite throughout the entire intercostal should drastically pick up. Live mullet, mud minnows, or small flypatterns are great for the micro tarpon! The larger fish along the beach and channels hardly resist live bait slow trolled. Take whatever live bait is available and hang on! With things finally making a come back from Coronavirus, it’s time to get out and enjoy some great opportunities the lagoon has to offer! With this being said, don’t forget about your local business and support your local fishing guide! Goodluck to all and tight lines!
